A charming master-planned community in Osceola County, Celebration is one of very few places in Florida where it snows. Not the sludgy, misery-inducing cold stuff that falls from darkened northern skies throughout much of the year, mind you, but rather a soft fragrant dusting of artificial snow that is released from above every night during the town’s annual “Now Snowing” event. Celebration knows how to do Christmas right. In addition to the nightly snow falls that begin each year with a tree lighting ceremony in late November and continue through December, the popular Celebration Town Center winter event also features strolling Charles Dickens carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, and the Celebration Express train.

What’s So Great About Celebration?

Of course, Celebration doesn’t just lose its charm once the winter holiday season is over. As its very name implies, Celebration is a town that knows how to transform the everyday into something magical. It really is no wonder, since the town was originally developed by The Walt Disney Company. The town remains directly connected to the Walt Disney World resorts, as one of its principal streets, World Drive, begins near the Magic Kingdom. Several Disney-owned businesses, including Smart City Telecom and Reedy Creek Energy Services, continue to operate from within Celebration city limits, providing necessary utility services to the town.

In 2001, Celebration was named the “New Community of the Year” by the Urban Land Institute. Because the town was designed to maintain an early 20th century architectural aesthetic and small-town appeal, it is not zoned for high-density residences. Originally envisioned as a city that would exemplify Walt Disney’s vision of an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT ), Celebration has quickly become one of Florida’s most charming small cities.

Things To Do In Celebration

There is always something to do in Celebration. Celebration’s annual Oktoberfest is Central Florida’s premier family-friendly Octoberfest celebration. The event captures the beauty of autumn, as fall leaves, a little-seen phenomenon this far south, are dropped onto Market Street. The event features food, music, children’s games, and fun for the whole family.

In November, Celebration hosts the World Food Championships, which has something for every food lover to enjoy. From BBQ to bacon, burgers to desserts, chili to pasta, and sandwiches to seafood, the World Food Championships feature a variety of cuisines that are sure to please even the most discriminating palate. With vendors, chef demos, mixology classes, and a Grand Tasting event, the World Food Championships are any foodie’s dream festival.

Of course, the food in Celebration is great even when the World Food Championships aren’t in town. The Celebration Town Tavern is a New-England style eatery with a great beer selection and a giant screen for watching your favorite sporting events. The Columbia restaurant is a hacienda-style version of a popular local Spanish-Cuban restaurant chain with a delectable menu and an excellent wine selection. Be sure to take home a packet (or ten) of Columbia’s delicious Sangria mix. Celebration’s Market Street Cafe is a classic small-town diner with beautiful lake views and great milkshakes.
